Should We Let AI Decide How We Learn, Live & Love?
In a time where AI is no longer just a buzzword but a daily reality, from how we work to how we make decisions in our personal lives a deeper question emerges: Should it be deciding for us?
And more importantly, how do we as Black professionals position ourselves for what’s coming next?
This was the heart of the conversation at our recent BYP Professional Roundtable, and while the perspectives were diverse, one thing became clear:
AI is powerful, but it’s not everything.
How AI Shows Up in Everyday Life
For many of us, AI used to feel distant, something for coders, researchers, or big tech companies. But now? It’s on our phones, in our workflows, embedded into the apps we use without a second thought.
Some of us use AI to draft client emails, analyze data, or refine ideas after a brainstorming session. Others rely on it for creative prompts, productivity hacks, or even running our homes through voice-controlled automations.
But here’s the real shift:
AI is no longer just a tool, it’s a collaborator. And like any collaboration, what you get out of it depends on what you bring into it.
“I brain-dump everything, then use ChatGPT to structure it clearly. It helps me think, not think for me.” – Grace Yusuf
“I use it for everything from debugging to automating tasks. It's part of my workflow now.” – Sebastian Okita
So whether you’re deep in the tech world or just starting to explore, one thing is clear:
Know what you want to do, and let the tools support that journey.

Final Thought: Don’t Let AI Lead Let It Support
We don’t need to fear AI but we do need to stay awake.
Because the biggest risk isn’t that AI will take our jobs, it's that we’ll stop thinking critically and creatively about our own lives.
Let AI support how you learn, live, and love but don’t hand over the keys. You’re still the driver.
