Celebrating Black Excellence at Cisco Meraki: A Black History Month Tribute

At Cisco Meraki, celebrating our people is at the heart of who we are. Our diverse, vibrant community thrives on the energy and passion of our employees, driving us to create intuitive, secure technology that makes a difference. Through our ongoing series, Humans of Meraki, we share the stories that bring our culture to life, stories of purpose, innovation, and inclusion.
In the spirit of post-celebration of Black History Month (BHM), we proudly spotlighted the voices of Kaylin Mason, Jayson Wicker, and Brandon Saunders, Meraki team members whose experiences and insights reflect the spirit of Meraki and its commitment to fostering inclusivity. Here's how we celebrated BHM and what it means to our team:
A Celebration of Black Culture and Arts
This year’s theme, Black People and the Arts, inspired a range of events to honour Black creativity, resilience, and achievement. From the powerful Unleash the Arts event spotlighting local Black artists to a dynamic cardio Hip Hop class called Get Tah Steppin’, Meraki created spaces to celebrate and connect. Our team also hosted a fireside chat titled Harnessing the Power of Generative AI in Black Communities, showcasing how technology can drive meaningful change.
A Culture Rooted in Inclusivity
Meraki's Connected Black Professionals, our employee resource group, brought the celebration to life. Highlights included a homecoming celebration, a Black-owned vendor marketplace, and lunches catered by Black-owned restaurants. These initiatives are more than events, they’re a testament to the inclusive environment Meraki fosters, where trust and acceptance are key pillars.
Voices from our Team Members
For our team, Black History Month isn’t just a moment; it’s a movement:
- Kaylin Mason, Network Support Representative, Houston, TX, reflects;
“Black History Month is a chance to express my gratitude toward those who paved the way for me to experience the opportunities I have today. I celebrate BHM by recognising the accomplishments of African Americans throughout history, supporting Black-owned businesses, and attending events.”
- Jayson Wicker, Enterprise Customer Success Manager, RTP, NC, has this to say;
“Black History Month gives me hope that people can persevere, as we have throughout time. It propels my inner drive to do great work and honour the legacy of the change-makers who came before me. Through volunteering, mentoring, and attending BHM events, I’m able to put my learnings into practice and create synergy around the art of what’s possible.”
- Brandon Saunders, Sales Lead Development Representative, Team Lead, Chicago, IL, has this to say;
“I celebrate being a Black person and Black history year-round. That being said, I make an extra effort to go above and beyond with my celebrations during February and on Juneteenth. One of the ways I actively celebrate BHM is by exclusively supporting Black-owned businesses throughout February. At home, my children and I get lost in the history of Black cinema by watching some of the most iconic films depicting Black culture throughout time.”
Join the Movement
At Cisco Meraki, we believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered. Our Black History Month celebrations are just one example of how we honour diverse voices and champion inclusion every day.
