Senior Biodiversity Specialist, WW Sustainability

London, England, GBR Full Time

Description

The Biodiversity Team within Worldwide Environment is looking for a Senior Biodiversity Specialist with a deep passion for biodiversity and nature conservation.

This role will apply knowledge of real estate development processes and biodiversity risks and opportunities to help global businesses assess and reduce biodiversity impacts across new construction and existing assets. You will design, implement, and manage interventions aligned to the internationally recognized mitigation hierarchy — avoid, minimize, restore, and compensate.
You will develop and refine remote sensing tools for site surveys, create and apply mitigation guidance, manage compensation frameworks, and support the advancement of monitoring and validation technology and initiatives.
This role requires the ability to Think Big and Earn Trust — scaling mechanisms across business units and geographies, driving adoption by internal customers, and demonstrating economic value while achieving broader environmental and social objectives. You will manage complex relationships across multiple internal partner teams and external solution providers, earning trust by communicating technical biodiversity concepts clearly to non-specialist senior leaders.

Key job responsibilities
• Serve as a company expert on project-specific biodiversity compensation, managing and growing a framework of approved suppliers to ensure best value and maintain a high bar for integrity.
• Operate across every stage of the project lifecycle (design, pre-construction, construction, operation) to support business unit owners in implementing biodiversity mechanisms and meeting their goals.
• Evaluate tools and mitigation guidance for effectiveness and identify areas for improvement; communicate benefits and progress to senior leadership within WW Sustainability and partner teams.
• Engage with emerging businesses to set goals and strategies.
• Develop and deliver Think Big initiatives and pilots, including ongoing management and governance.
• Continually improve measurement methods and data collection to value the benefits offered by nature-based solutions.
• Develop and scale centrally managed biodiversity compensation mechanisms globally.
