Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, managing a team and owning technical outcomes.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience developing high-performance, real-time audio or computer vision systems for mobile or wearable platforms.
  • Experience with Android frameworks, or imaging/audio-related domains.
  • Expertise in privacy-preserving computing (PCC), or on-device storage systems like AppSearch.
  • Ability to navigate large, ambiguous technical challenges without significant assistance from executive leadership.

The team develops next-generation user intelligence for Pixel, creating an audio platform that bridges raw data and human memory across the Android stack. Our mission is to enhance user experiences via intelligent audio capturing and processing, delivering the next generation of human interfaces and features while maintaining high privacy standards.

As a Software Engineering Manager for Audio Experience, you will drive strategic outcomes for Pixel's audio roadmap. You will lead end-to-end design, manage an Engineering team across frameworks and applications, and solve complex technical challenges.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s software and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Design, guide, and vet systems designs for audio capture and intelligence understanding and to solve ambiguous technical problems in the audio domain.
  • Develop the mid-term technical goal and roadmap for the audio platform. Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs within the Pixel organization.
  • Set clear expectations for team members and meet regularly to discuss performance and development. Provide guiding feedback and coaching to help engineers grow and address evolving team needs.
  • Set and communicate team priorities that support broader organizational goals. Drive alignment with product, UX, research, privacy, security, and hardware partners to ensure the audio ecosystem is compliant and high-performing.
  • Anticipate and prevent problems related to scaling bottlenecks and battery impact. Implement best practices to ensure the efficiency and health of always-on system features.
