Operational Excellence Leader, Infrastructure and Data Center

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in electrical, mechanical/HVAC, or controls experience in an industrial/commercial environment.
  • 12 years of experience with process improvement and performance improvement plans.
  • 12 years of experience in data center operations management and third-party vendor management.
  • 12 years of experience managing data center critical infrastructure in mission-critical environments.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% domestically and internationally.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering, or equivalent practical experience in a technical, mission-critical field.
  • 15 years of combined experience in the design, construction, commissioning, or operation of hyperscale, mission-critical data center infrastructure with third-party managed/colocation data center experience.
  • Deep expertise in building structures for contract management, ensuring successful outcomes across many different providers and agreements to meet shared goals and outcomes.
  • Proven track record of defining and delivering technical roadmaps for global infrastructure, resulting in measurable improvements in reliability, efficiency, or operational excellence.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

As a master of exceptional practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As the Operational Excellence Leader, you will scale artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and resolve operational concerns through forward-thinking engineering strategies. You will bridge technical roadmaps and operational execution, ensuring essential infrastructure environments are optimized for the next generation of hyperscale computing.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $205000 - $286000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Drive forward-looking, approaches to anticipate and address Data Center Operations (DCOps)’ most testing AI infrastructure problems, specific to Google’s third-party managed fleet.
  • Act as the executive technical triage point for critical operational issues, assessing and delegating resolution to the appropriate engineering or operational teams to drive permanent change.
  • Serve as the key technical lead ensuring program excellence, including driving continuous improvement and ensuring agreement requirements are met via tooling and AI agents.
  • Define and drive the technical roadmap for next-generation third-party DCOps, focusing on solutions that integrate with Google's first-party managed fleet.
  • Act as a trusted and neutral arbiter to drive consensus and alignment on technical approaches and strategies across cross-functional work streams.
