Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience leading technical projects and providing technical leadership.
  • Experience in software development with one or more general purpose programming languages (e.g., Kotlin or Java).
  • Experience in delivering large-scale, user facing, and production-level systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience building high-scale systems, robust APIs, and data pipelines utilizing technologies like server platform and GMS Core.
  • Experience with Android application or platform development.
  • Experience being an engaged gamer, either mobile, PC or console.
  • Deep background in developing social features, engagement mechanics, or global gaming platforms.

As the core gaming identity for Google Play, the Gamer Profile is the critical connective tissue linking billions of users to the platform and the broader global gaming community.

In this role, you will directly architect and shape the end-to-end user journey on a global gaming platform of massive scale. You will collaborate closely with a cross-functional squad of Product Managers, UX Designers, TPMs, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to design a seamless social ecosystem for players. You will architect and build highly engaging, interactive features that drive player discovery and community connection across multiple high-traffic surfaces on Google Play. You will also leverage technologies to architect a robust technical stack that ensures the stability and low latency required for high-impact, player-facing features.

Google Play offers music, movies, books, apps and games for devices, powered by the cloud. It syncs across devices and on the web. As part of the Android and Mobile team, Googlers working on Google Play do everything from engineering our backend systems, to shaping product strategy, to forming great content partnerships. They make it possible for people to do things like buy an ebook or song on their Android phone, then have it instantly available on their laptop. The Google Play team enhances the Android ecosystem by giving developers and partners a premium store where they can reach millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a high velocity team in Bengaluru, providing direct technical leadership and coaching to engineers to help them progress in their development and meet business goals.
  • Foster an AI-first culture by leading the adoption of generative AI tools and workflows to accelerate engineering velocity.
  • Contribute to implementing high-impact features in the technical stack. Generate data-driven insights on product performance to inform and shape strategic product direction.
  • Collaborate with partner engineering teams in Bengaluru, build engaging and interactive experiences that promote discovery of network building on the platform. Collaborate closely with Product Management, UX, Engineering leads, and Software Engineers from London team.
  • Exhibit strong judgment in balancing immediate priorities and long term investment on the technical stack, navigate technical ambiguity to reduce chaos, ensuring a steady drumbeat of delivery for high-impact, player-facing features.
